Lovely Petoskey Stone Skull with Dwarf Lake Iris and Apple Blossom which are Michigan's State wild flower and flower, respectively. 

We all carry a skull with us at all times underneath our skin. Yet, the image of a skull can be scary and spooky as a skull without a body and skin says death and decay. If we flip the narrative, skulls can represent protection and refuge as it protects and houses our brains, eyes and so much more during our living days. It often lives beyond our living years as if to be a memento and memorial of our lives.

I wanted to take a positive view of the skull and create a lovely interpretation of it. The skull's eyes are heart shaped and adorned by the pattern of my favorite fossil, the Petoskey Stone. It is surrounded by Michigan's state flower and wild flower, the Apple Blossom and Dwarf Lake Iris. The three elements are enclosed by a circle to represent the circle of life.
