About me
I fell in love with painting Petoskey stones and now that love has expanded to include fossils and stones from the Michigan. I enjoy studying and painting them, but what I enjoy even more is the interaction with friends and people that share an affection for them. I'm so grateful and excited when something I create resonates with the beholder.
I live in S.Korea with my husband and two kids - ages 5 and 2. As a young mom, most of my day is devoted to caring for the young ones, but I feel like Papermiel Designs is on my mind 24-7.
Although I live half way across the globe from Michigan and the Great Lakes, please know I’m just an email, a Instagram DM, or a sweet package away !
How Papermiel Designs came to be?
I had the joy of living in Ann Arbor, Michigan for three years (2014 – 2017) with my husband, Isaac, who worked at the University of Michigan. Both Papermiel (the brand) and Eleanor (my daughter) were born while we were there, which makes the state even more special to me.
Papermiel started as a paper goods brand, budding from a fiery love for journaling, journals and stationery. At the time, I focused mainly on repurposing vintage books into one-of-a-kind handmade journals, and sold them at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market and online.
After our dreamy time in Michigan came to a close, my family returned to our home country, South Korea. It was during this big transition that Papermiel was reborn as Papermiel Designs. I decided that it was a good time to pivot and focus more on art and design. The essence of what I want to do is ideate, create and share with a focus on Michigan and Great Lakes themes.
I started painting and also exploring digital design - learning as I go. While pursuing this passion, I fell in love with painting Petoskey stones and now that love has expanded to Michigan's fossils and stones.
